To all the moisturizers I loved this winter

To all the moisturizers I loved this winter

I’ve noticed as I get older, my skin is more reactive to the weather. It gets drier, more irritated, and more dehydrated as the weather gets colder. Now that spring is approaching, let’s recap on the moisturizers I loved this winter.

There’s a lot of controversy around using heavier cream-based moisturizers on oily skin. A lot of people believe that oily skin types should stay away from any oil-based products in general. However, I’ve found my skin is at its best with proper moisturizing.

With that being said, I primarily use these moisturizers at night because they are heavier. I feel like my skin does get super dehydrated, so layering on a rich cream over my face oil really helps the products absorb into my skin as I sleep. When my skin is well hydrated, it looks super clear and glowy in the morning. If your skin is on the drier side, definitely give these creams a try in the morning as well.

The three moisturizers I have in my rotation currently are the Youth to the People Adaptogen Deep Moisture Cream, the Glossier Priming Moisturizer Rich, and the Catherine Jinn Extreme Moisturizer (which was gifted to me a couple months back - thanks Catherine Jinn!!).

The Youth to the People Adaptogen Deep Moisture Cream is one of the silkiest creams I’ve ever used. YTTP always has the most amazing, whipped, bouncy texture when it comes to their moisturizers. It’s pretty similar to their Spinach & Kale Age Prevention Cream - think cousins. It’s unscented and does a great job of bringing moisture back to my skin. I’ve also found that this cream really calms down any redness I get in my skin from the cold. However, it’s the greasiest out of the three. I tried using this in the daytime, but found that my base makeup would slide easily. So I use this cream solely at night.

So I’ve basically tried every single Glossier product out there and for Christmas, my sister bought me the Glossier Priming Moisturizer Rich. I had been wanting to try this for awhile because I love their Priming Moisturizer so much (it’s currently my daytime skincare routine staple). Wow, this cream is just everything. It’s super thick, yet absorbs into my skin like nothing. It leaves no trace of greasiness and the lavender scent is ultra calming. I actually feel like the Priming Moisturizer is dewier than this one, but the Priming Moisturizer Rich is definitely more hydrating.

I saved the best for last. The Catherine Jinn Extreme Moisturizer is the one moisturizer I absolutely can’t live without. I would buy this over and over again. It’s super affordable (retails on Amazon for $35) for a high quality moisturizer. I’ve really made a dent in this moisturizer. I love trying out new products, but I’ve found myself going back to this one every time. It’s formulated with hyaluronic acid, jojoba oil, squalane, and apricot kernel oil - all oils that absorb into the skin very easily making it suitable for all skin types. It’s the perfect gel-cream texture that feels refreshing and dewy when applied to the skin. After about a minute, the dewiness fades and my skin feels so hydrated and soothed. It also doesn’t aggravate my skin or clog my pores at all. Every time I use this moisturizer, I wake up with healthier, less oily skin. I’ve never seen such drastic results with any other moisturizer I’ve tried, so this one is definitely a keeper.

Until next time, Megan.
