Glossier Play: First Impressions

Glossier Play: First Impressions

Only when it’s Glossier will I place an order to restock my makeup/skincare staples and then immediately after, place another order for their new makeup launch. Thus today, let’s talk first impressions about Glossier Play.

I was a bit weary about order a bunch of items off the launch because of the lack of swatches when the launch first went live. I’m definitely no early adopter. However, I have a soft spot for highlighters and glitter eyeshadows so I couldn’t resist picking up the Niteshine liquid highlighter and Glitter Gelee eyeshadow.

I’m not crazy about vibrant, high impact makeup looks because I work in the professional services industry. I can’t exactly go crazy with my makeup—a good thing because I also lack the eyelids for it. So when I was choosing which products to buy, I gravitated towards the more natural items of the launch. The Niteshine in “Pale Pearl” is the perfect pearlescent, champagne-toned highlighter. It dries down to a finish that reminds me of the Marc Jacobs Coconut Dew Drops, but without the scent and with a slighter more sheer finish. I also really appreciate the blendability of this highlighter. It’s like Haloscope, an all-time favorite of mine, in terms of color payoff without the tacky finish. I can definitely see this becoming a staple in my makeup bag.

I also picked up the Glitter Gelee in “Firewalk.” I’m a sucker for copper shades when it comes to eyeshadows and I found this one to be pretty unique. It goes on very sheer, which can almost look patchy up close. But when you take a step back, the copper shade of the eyeshadow creates a lot of definition on the lids. As you can see from the swatch above, the glitter is very chunky. I like and dislike this. It’s cool and perfect for a date night look, but not subtle at all. I probably won’t wear this one to work. On the other hand, I can attest to the formula’s longevity. It dries down fully and does not budge - an important aspect if you have oily eyelids like me.

So my final thoughts -

This launch was a bit anti-climactic in my perspective, but I was fairly impressed with the products I have tried so far. Glossier Play is very fluid and fun - something that I’m really happy to see the brand dive into this year. Moreover, I've heard great things about the Colorslide eyeliners and the Lip Vinyl so I plan to try those out soon.

What are your thoughts on Glossier Play?
