I'm gonna hang around, long enough to be part of the furniture: monthly favorites

Today I want to kick off a new series on the blog called the Monthly Favorites. It will feature a chockful of beauty products, some style pieces, wellness bits, anything really that I have collected over the past month. So without further ado, let's talk about some glimmers that caught my eye in June.

(The title of this post is a lyric from the Drowner's song "Unzip Your Harrington.")

The wellness bit. Time of day. I think it's important to have something to look forward to everyday, whether it be the evenings after work or classes, or the next episode of that show you've been binge watching on Netflix. For me, it's mornings. Early mornings with a cup of coffee is my happy place & it's a luxury that I can achieve daily. The most valuable action you can do to strengthen your mental health is to find something that makes you happy that you can do every single day. Simplicity is the ultimate goal. It's not about traveling to a fancy destination, it's about finding a part of your mundane life that makes you feel at ease or at home.

The beauty bits. Last month was an eventful month for beauty discoveries. I found my perfect sunscreen, lip balm that's sparkly & actually tastes like vanilla cake, a clarifying soap/body mask that has the texture of seaweed..just to name a few.

Glossier Invisible Shield Daily Sunscreen SPF 35, Birthday Balm Dotcom, Generation G Lipstick in "Like"

RIP Invisible Shield. I plowed through this sunscreen in 2 months. Really shocking considering I used it sparingly!! The major downside to this product is the price to size ratio. It costs a whopping $34 for 1 oz. For that reason, I am going to hold off on repurchasing it for awhile. I just have so many beauty staples from Glossier that I feel like I can't buy them all. Nevertheless, it's the best facial sunscreen I have ever used. It comes out as a cloudy, gel texture that spreads like water on your face. It sinks in quickly & feels weightless on skin. No greasiness, no white cast, just perfection. The only major concern I had when I initially bought this was that it's a chemical sunscreen. However, it doesn't contain oxybenzone (an environmental toxin and endocrine disrupter so a serious "no no" for your health). If you constantly breakout from sunscreen, definitely check this one out.

The Milkbar x Glossier collaboration is the highlight of June. This is my favorite balm dotcom flavor to date. It contains a subtle amount of shimmer and is cake-scented, without being sickly sweet. I use this on my lips constantly and as an eye gloss on the days that I don't feel like wearing eye makeup. My perfect everyday lip look features the Gen G in "Like" with the Birthday Balm Dotcom layered over it. The only gripe I have about this multipurpose balm is that I've experience quite a bit of separation in the product which I typically don't get when I use the coconut balm dotcom.

Missha Time Revolution Clear Toner, Leahlani Skincare Bless Balm

The best beauty deal of last month: the Missha sale at Sokoglam. I've heard so many good things about the Time Revolution line and jumped on the opportunity to try the Clear Toner & First Treatment Essence. While I haven't seen as promising results yet with the essence, I am really loving the toner! It has a water-thin texture and absorbs really well, without leaving behind a tacky, sticky feeling to the skin. Plus, it has done wonders in smoothing out the texture of my skin with only two weeks of use.

Leahlani's Bless Balm is the product I didn't know I could use in the summer time. While it is a bit greasy at first, the balm melts in and makes your skin feel so soft & hydrated. Surprisingly in the summer heat, it doesn't make me breakout & the blue tansy is so great for soothing irritated skin. It takes longer to absorb so I would recommend using this only at night.

Lilfox Eucalipto Moroccan Black Soap + Body Mask, Le Metier de Beaute Peau Vierge Anti-Aging Complexe, Ouai Finishing Creme

The Eucalipto Black Soap + Body Mask is a shower game changer. It's just such a cool product. The texture is hard to describe but it seriously reminds me of seaweed. It's a thick texture that forms into a ball on your hand. All you need to do is scoop out a teaspoon amount into the palm of your hand and lather yourself with it as if you were using a bar of soap. It becomes a creamy texture that is really nourishing and clarifying. The few times I've used it, I've noticed slightly less keratosis pilaris on my arms. So thank you Art of Organics for the product discovery!

Another thank you to a wonderful lady, Lou (@reminiscent.of on Instagram) for the lovely care package! If you haven't met Lou, you should introduce yourself immediately. She is a Byredo representative at Neiman Marcus & will not only help you find your signature scent, but also arm you with super luxe samples. In the care package she sent me recently, she included a sample of Le Metier de Beaute's PV Anti-Aging Complexe. It's basically a tinted moisturizer that contains retinol. I love how it's a perfect combination of skincare and makeup. It goes on really smooth and blurs imperfections with the slightest touch, while also repairing your skin so you get that glow when you take off your makeup at the end of the day. However, the price point is definitely way more than I can afford so for now, I will just have to savor the deluxe sample size.

The Ouai Finishing Creme is simply amazing. I've been using it constantly to tame those flyaways. It also keeps my hair looking healthy. Need I say more?

The style bits. I have been wearing colored-lens aviators and fragrance nonstop this summer. They are my signature style must-haves I guess!

Free People Flavor of the Day Aviator Sunglasses, Le Labo Iris 39 Eau de Parfum

For $20, these Free People sunglasses are the cherry on top! I got the "Violet" lenses because I have been wanting a pair of purple colored lenses for a super long time. These are super flattering on my oval face shape and fit comfortably on my low nose bridge. The silver frame is thin but shockingly sturdy! Such great quality for the price. I really want to pick up the "Cotton Candy" shade as well.

I got a sample of Iris 39 from my local Le Labo counter at Nordstrom. It's such a clean, floral scent that breathes sophistication & tranquility. The scent just puts me in a good mood. I alternate between this one, my Commodity perfumes, and my Byredo samples daily. Pretty soon, I'm going to have to pick up some full size bottles but let's not think about that for now...

I hope you enjoyed reading my monthly favorites! Let me know what other content you would like to see.

Until next time, Megan.
